Heart Felt and Evidence-Based

How I will approach our collaboration

My work with childhood and singular event traumas is guided by an attachment lens.  I employ EMDR and Internal Family Systems as well as expressive arts and the resource of the natural world to resolve the trauma and, most importantly, the negative cognitions that trauma creates. Our unconscious thoughts hold us back from the rich life we deserve. To quote Freud, “Until we make explicit what is implicit, we are not free.”

Two words that are central to the work of self-renewal are:

self-awareness and self-compassion

Self-awareness is key to noticing when we are being triggered, what just triggered us, what we are feeling or thinking— providing the “space” Viktor Frankl speaks of in which we can access our power.

Self-compassion is an essential response to what we notice, as self-criticism becomes a barrier to accessing our power. Self-compassion calms our nervous system, allowing us to think clearly and choose a new response.
